The school newspaper was how we kept informed about all the goings on at West Islip High School. Trips that were taken, special accomplishments by individual students,  plays put on by the Drama Department were all there for our perusal. It was great when our friends names were mentioned or pictures displayed but even better if it was our own. Reporters kept us aware of how our teams were doing and good or bad did it really matter? We were always ready to cheer them on at the next game or exhibition. The Rudder, in its own way, kept us united. Each of the many separate activities at WIHS came together in our paper to let us know that whatever we chose to do, we were each a piece of the big picture that made our school so great. I hope you enjoy rereading The Rudder. I only have copies of it through 1960. If any of you have later editions that you would like to share, please email me and I will include them on this site. |
